The Problem with “Grounding”: Why Your Energy Needs Specific Instructions

“Ground yourself.” We’ve all heard it before. It’s advice as common as “just breathe” or “stay positive.”

But let’s be honest: when was the last time you actually felt grounded from a vague suggestion like “spend time in nature”?

If “grounding” feels frustratingly abstract, you’re not alone. I spent years navigating the nebulous world of energy work, trying to find practical tools that worked in the real world—the messy, overstimulated, mid-crisis kind of world.

And here’s what I discovered: most grounding advice lacks the precision we need to actually clear, stabilize, and protect our energy fields.

Let’s get specific.

Energy Always Finds a Path to the Earth

Here’s a concept you might not associate with grounding: electricity. When an electrical charge gets built up, it always looks for a way to discharge, usually to the ground. That’s why electrical plugs have a grounding prong—it ensures the energy flows into the earth safely instead of through, say, you. If there’s no clear path, you risk a shock—or worse.

Now think of your body as an energetic circuit. You’re constantly absorbing and emitting energy, but if you don’t have a clear, consistent grounding practice, that energy has nowhere to go. It builds up, creates blockages, and eventually “zaps” you in the form of overwhelm, reactivity, or even physical discomfort.

Without grounding, foreign energy can stick to you, your body can hold onto what it should release, and you may even channel energy that isn’t yours. This leaves you feeling hijacked, hyper-reactive, or downright exhausted.

What Grounding Really Means

At its core, grounding is about creating an intentional connection between your energy field and the earth’s energy field. It’s not just “spending time outside” or “being calm for a bit.” It’s about actively running energy in a way that clears your field and stabilizes your system—like plugging in that grounding prong so the charge flows where it’s supposed to go.

When I ask people how they ground, the answers are often vague: “I like to go for walks,” or “I take deep breaths.” But what happens when you’re at your desk, in a high-stress meeting, or mid-argument with someone? Grounding isn’t useful if it’s only accessible during your downtime.

How I Learned to Ground—and Why It Changed Everything

For years, I struggled with this. I had a sense of what grounding should do, but no clear steps to make it happen in real time. Then, during my clairvoyant mentorship, I was guided through a grounding process that fundamentally changed how I experience my energy—and my body.

I remember sitting there, being led through a visualization where I intentionally grounded my energy to the earth and released what wasn’t mine. And I’m not exaggerating when I say I felt the pain leave my body. It was like years of built-up tension—physical and emotional—was finally draining out of me.

At the time, I had been dealing with chronic pain from a herniated disc for the past six years. I’d tried everything—medical treatments, physical therapy, alternative approaches. But grounding in this specific, intentional way was the first thing that gave me real relief.

From that moment on, I knew that the next part of my recovery involved energy work.

Why Specificity Matters

The concept of grounding is often treated as fluffy or optional. But in my practice, it’s foundational. In the Conscious Leadership Membership, grounding is the first thing I teach as part of our mind-body-spirit methodology.

Here’s why: grounding isn’t just about feeling calm. It’s about clearing your energy field so you can show up in your life with clarity and resilience. It’s about releasing what isn’t yours to carry—foreign energy, stuck emotions, outdated patterns—and reconnecting to the earth as a source of stability and strength.

Through experiential workshops, I guide members through practical grounding techniques that they can use not just in peaceful moments, but in the heat of everyday life. This isn’t about sitting on the sidelines. It’s about stepping into the arena with tools that work.

Takeaway: Plug in Your Grounding Prong

If your grounding practice feels vague or ineffective, it’s time to get specific. Ask yourself:

  • Do I have a process for clearing stuck energy?

  • How do I manage myself in the middle of life’s inevitable moments of chaos?

  • How does my experience shift if I’m connected to the Earth’s energy field?

Grounding is the first step to clearing your energy field, reclaiming your power, and showing up as the leader you’re meant to be.

If this resonates with you, I’d love to invite you into the Conscious Leadership Membership, where we’ll explore this practice (and so much more) in a way that’s practical, powerful, and life-changing.
