Why I’m Moving from Resilience to Leadership: A Personal Shift

Hello, my loves.

I want to share something —a shift that’s been brewing within me for quite some time. It’s the kind of shift that sneaks up on you slowly until you can’t ignore it anymore. For over 12 years, I’ve predominantly occupied two spaces: my massage therapy practice and coaching work, both focused on helping people build resilience. Resilience to stress, resilience to life’s overwhelming seasons, resilience when our bodies are tricky. It’s been all about regulating the body, soothing the nervous system, and staying afloat when things get tough.

But lately, I’ve felt a pull—a pull away from helping people simply survive their discomforts and difficulties. There’s been this deep, internal nudge to pivot toward something that feels more expansive, more alive. Leadership.

And no, I’m not only talking about the traditional, corporate-style leadership that most of us envision—CEOs in boardrooms and organizational hierarchies. I’m talking about personal leadership. The kind of leadership where you take the reins of your own life and lead yourself first.

When I shifted my focus from resilience to leadership, something clicked. It was like I was moving from validating people in what they don’t want to experience anymore to inspiring them to step into what they do want to create. And let me tell you, that shift feels like a breath of fresh air.

The Subtle Yet Radical Shift to Inner Authority

Leadership, in this context, means embodying your full inner authority. It means knowing what matters to you, having a crystal-clear vision, being decisive, adaptable, compassionate, and humble. It means practicing showing up fully in every space you occupy—from your home, to your work, to the community.

The big aha moment for me? Leadership is not just about leading a team, or an organization, or even a movement. It’s about leading yourself. And when you’re fully in that space of self-leadership, so much opens up.

I’ve been guilty of letting circumstances dictate my path—giving away my power to the external world. “I can’t do this because of that,” or “I’m stuck because of something outside of me.”

But here’s the truth bomb: Real leadership is about being in complete decision-making power of all aspects of your life. It’s about not being available for anything that doesn’t align with the reality you’re choosing to create.

Lessons from My Anxious Little Dog (And Why Simplicity Wins)

I’m going to simplify this whole leadership thing with a story about my dog, Margo. She’s a tiny, anxious little being who feels the need to lead if I don’t step up. When we’re out on a walk and another dog approaches, she stiffens, her hackles go up—her anxiety screams, “I need to take charge here!” But when I step into my role as the leader of the pack, positioning myself between her and what triggers her, something magical happens. She calms down. She knows her human has got this.

And guess what? Humans aren’t much different. When we don’t step into our own authority, we get anxious. We start grasping for control in all the wrong places. But when we center ourselves, when we clearly decide to be in charge of our own lives, there’s peace.

It’s about trust. Trusting that we can handle the triggers, the unknowns, the chaos. And the more I show up for my anxious pup, the more I realize that the same applies to how I lead myself—and how I guide others to lead themselves.

Leadership as a Healing Force—For Us and for the Collective

Leadership isn’t just a fancy term or a box to check off on your career development list. It’s healing. Because when you lead yourself from a place of wholeness—when your body is regulated, your mind is clear, and your spirit is grounded—you’re not just a better leader for yourself. You’re a better leader for everyone around you.

I’ve worked in all kinds of spaces: as a massage therapist guiding people into their bodies, in higher education helping students navigate a stressful program, as a serial entrepreneur, and in coaching to guide people to deeper personal awareness so they can take aligned action. And here’s the common thread I’ve found: When people are aligned with their full selves—mind, body, spirit—they move through the world with a different kind of power. A calm, confident power that doesn’t come from forcing or hustling, but from being whole.

Moving Beyond the Individual: From Self to Collective Wellness

Now, don’t get me wrong—this isn’t about hyper-individualism. In fact, it’s the opposite. True leadership—true wellness—acknowledges that the well-being of each individual contributes to the well-being of the whole. When we invest in our individual growth, when we heal ourselves, we are better equipped to uplift others. We start to dismantle the oppressive forces of hustle culture, of scarcity, of “not enough.” We wake up.

More people than ever are waking up and choosing their inner authority over numbing out. And this kind of wake-up disrupts everything that’s broken in our world. It’s a quiet revolution, but it’s a powerful one.

So, Here’s Where We’re Headed

I’m stepping away from the past version of my work—the version that was all about resilience. It was necessary and transformative, but I’ve outgrown it. Now, I’m moving into this new territory of conscious leadership. Whole-body, whole-mind, whole-spirit leadership. The kind where you’re not just surviving but thriving. Where you’re not just responding to life, but consciously creating it.

If you’re ready to lean into your own leadership, to lead from a place of deep alignment, presence, and power, I’m here for it. Let’s do this together—in real time, with real talk, and a lot of love.

The world needs more grounded, embodied leaders. And it starts with us.

More soon.
