You Can't Add Days to Your Life, But You Can Add Life to Your Days
How many more moments are you willing to let slip by, waiting for the "perfect time" to live the life you’ve been dreaming of?
Here's the hard truth: the right time will never come. There’s never a moment when the stars align, when you have all the resources, or when the perfect circumstances finally roll in. It’s a myth.
You could easily be halfway through your life right now — this is midlife, afterall. And that can be a powerful thing to reflect on—not to scare you, but to light a fire under you to take action now. If you knew your time was limited—if you knew you only had so many days left—how would that change how you’re spending them?
I don’t think it’s morbid to look at mortality as a deadline. I use it all the time to help me feel alive.
Sometimes, we need that little nudge to make sure we’re prioritizing what truly matters to us. This is your reminder to stop waiting. Your future self will thank you for showing up today.
What Have You Been Putting Off?
So, what's been waiting on the backburner for too long? What’s been simmering quietly in your heart—knowing it’s there but not acting on it? It’s time to look at what you've been tolerating and that stands between you and your wildest dreams. What parts of yourself have you been ignoring, and what dreams you’ve been pushing aside?
I’ll go first: I identify as a painter but don’t paint. For years, I’ve let this creative calling linger in the background. But here's the thing—this is a calling. It’s not just a hobby or a wish. As a child, I remember pouring over the art history edition of our family’s Encyclopedia Brittanica in our loft library; staring at Picasso, Kandinsky, Carr, Pollock, Kahlo and thinking, “I could do that.” That fire has been burning in me for 40 years, and it won’t die out.
My logic-loving brain often tries to dissuade me from diving into this creative passion. It doesn’t see the direct connection to my income and career goals. The “shoulds” creep in: I should be focusing on growing my coaching business, or I should just get a regular job-job and stop living with my heads in the clouds. But here's something I've learned to be true: my energy is everything.
When I’m aligned with something that truly lights me up, like painting, it fuels my entire mind-body-spirit self. It’s not about the “perfect” financial payoff right away, but about tapping into the energy that flows when I’m doing something that feels truly right. If I feel good and like I’m actualizing something that connects with my larger vision, it opens up more energy—energy that flows into everything I do, not just my art. So, the only rule I impose on myself is to “follow the energy.”
If I get off course and the energy feels wrong, I adjust. But I stay the course, always moving in the direction of those fire-in-the-belly dreams. Does it always make logical sense? Not at all. But does it feel aligned? Yes. And that’s where my trust lies: I trust that the right opportunities will unfold when I keep pursuing my passions, in ways that fulfill my ambitions—those goals that nourish my soul.
I have unwavering conviction in this process. When you listen to your energy and follow what feels right, you create space for things to unfold in a way that logic can’t always predict. And if you’re also a visionary and someone who does things unconventionally, then this will make sense to you, too. Try as I might, I just don’t fit into conventional boxes. Every time I try to do things someone else’s way, I end up stuck and disconnected from my own power.
What About You?
What’s your version of the painting easel that you’ve been avoiding?
What have you been putting off, even though you know it’s calling you?
What’s stopping you from taking that first step?
Are you willing to let that obstacle win?
Here’s the thing: there is ALWAYS something you can do—no matter your circumstances, no matter the challenges. Even the smallest action in the direction of your dreams is still an action (like choosing a better thought). It's a vote for the person you're becoming. It’s always better to take a tiny step than no step at all.
What would it look like if you became available for that calling?
If you stopped seeing obstacles and instead focused on ways to express that calling, bit by bit, every day?
The dream is alive, waiting for you to step into it.
